Procedural Writing

Posted on Updated on

Now that we have had some practice in writing a procedure, it’s time to challenge ourselves. Today I want you to write a procedure independently. You will fill out a plan, write a rough draft, type a good copy, then post it on our blog.

The topic choices are:

1. How to be successful in Mr. Purdon’s class.

or

2. How to play a game we’ve played in gym.

How to play Hooksey Ball in gym.

I am going to show you how to play hooksey ball in gym but first you will need a gym, 3 gym mats, a soccer ball, and 20 people.
Now here is how to do this step by step

    1. First make 2 teams of 10 people and put them on each side of the gym.

    2. Then put the 3 mats in a baseball diamond formation.

    3. Put team 1 in a line against the wall with the ball.

    4. Then put team 2 on the other side of the black line.

    5. Spread team 2 out so they can catch the ball.

    6. Team 1 has to kick the ball and then try to get to the bases.

    7. But they have to do that before the designated person runs to a certant spot.
    8. But the person has to have the ball and then touch the ground which means the runners out if he is not on a base.
    9. Also if someone catches the kick before it hits the ground then the kicker is out and has to go to the back wall and wait for the next round.

Now if your students or friends enjoy this game then you have done well

      Mr. Purdon responded:
      November 15, 2011 at 7:59 am

If you want to play an awesome game called battle ship then you have to follow the steps below.

If you want to play this game then you have to have 3 hula-hoops, 6 balls, a gym, and at least 20 people.

    2. Get 3 hula-hoops and set them out in the middle of the gym.
    3. Get 6 balls and put 2 in each hula-hoop.
    4. Make sure that all of the people are on the wall.
    5. Pick 3 people to go in one hula-hoop.
    6. When you say go all of the people on the wall have to run to the other side while trying not to get hit by a ball.
    7. If you get hit you have to sit down in the spot you got hit in.
    8. The people who got hit can try to tag the other people while sitting in their spot.
    9. If there is only one person left that means that he/she was the winner.
    10. Once you start a new game you would have to pick new throwers.

If the people you played with say they want to play again that means your game was awesome.

Today I am going to tell you how to play the game temple of doom.

You will need a lot of people to play with, bean bags, a gym or very big area to play in, and 8 dodge balls.

To play the game follow these 9 easy steps.

    1. Spit all the people into 3 teams.
    2. Put one of the teams on a far side of the gym and the other two on the sides.
    3. Put the bean bags on the other far side of the gym.
    4. Give the teams on the sides four dodge balls for each team.
    5. When the teams ore ready to play the teams on the far side of the gym have to run across the gym to the bean bags grab one and get back to their side without getting hit by a dodge ball and if they get a bean bag back to their side the earned their team a point.
    6. If the on the far side pass a orange line they can’t get hit by a dodge ball.
    7. If the team on the far side gets hit by a dodge ball they have to go back and restart.
    8. Give the team on the far side 2 or 3 minutes to get as many bean bags as they can after the 2 or 3 minutes switch the teams places so the other people have a chance to play.
    9. Now you know how to play the game temple of doom!!!!

If you mow know how to play the game your goal was achieved if you don’t know how it wasn’t.

If you’re in Mr. Purdon’s class, and you’re wondering how to be successful, I strongly suggest following the steps below. They will help.

Before we get started, there are some things you will need. They aren’t so much as items, more like characteristics. You will need: organization skills, respect, responsibility, honesty, and effort.

Now really, there’s no particular order for these so let’s start off with the organization skills. Organization is a wonderful skill to have…Especially being in Mr. Purdon’s class. If you don’t have that skill and your desk becomes really messy, try a binder. They really do help organize your work, rather than, shoving a bunch of random papers in your desk. With a binder, you can just take it out from inside your desk, open it up, un-do the rings, put your piece of paper into the correct category, close the rings, and place your binder back into your desk. It may seem like a lot of work but in reality, it’s only like, 10 seconds.

Picture it, Santa Claus checking his list to see if you’ve been good or bad. If he just so happens to see that you’ve been caught not showing respect, he throws in the towel. Well, Mr. Purdon’s somewhat the same way. If you show respect, you’ll gain respect from many. It’s an awful good thing to show it while being in his class (and anywhere for that matter)

One of the best ones is responsibility. If you hand all your work/homework in on time, Mr. Purdon will adore you. Well, maybe ‘adore’ isn’t the best word for it. He’ll trust you more. Sometime in February, Mr. Purdon usually takes his class to an outdoor school called Kingfisher. You’d usually be staying for two nights and three days. You have to bring your own food, own clothes, own blankets, pillows, you name it. If you aren’t responsible enough to remember your homework, there’s no way you’ll be going to Kingfisher.

Always be honest. Say you were put into a predicament where someone in the class had spilled something all over the floor and hadn’t cleaned it up. That someone was you, and you know it. You finally build up the courage to fess up. Now Mr. Purdon knows that you’ve done it. He might be a bit tempered that you didn’t clean it up, but he’d also be a tad bit happy knowing that you were honest with him. Just remember to apologize and head straight to the sink to clean it up.

Remember to put effort into your work. Yes, it might take awhile for you to finish your work but it doesn’t matter. Want to know why? Because first one, is often worst done. Go ahead, take your time. Don’t rush. It’ll be worth it.

If you are able to follow these steps, you will be successful in Mr. Purdon’s class.

      Mr. Purdon responded:
      November 15, 2011 at 8:11 am

This certainly doesn’t follow the procedure format, but is extremely well written and good advice. Next time number the steps. There is no doubt that anyone who read this, and took your advice, they would be very successful in my class.

    How to play battle ship

If you want to play a very fun game you should play a game called battle ship.

To play battle ship you will need the following 3 hula hoops, 6 dodge balls, and 13 players or more.

To play battle ship, follow these steps.

    1. Lay down your hula hops about 2 meters away from each other.
    2. Now, put 2 dodge balls in each hula hop.
    3. Put one player in each hula hop So,there the ones who throw the balls. And the other ten players line up against the wall.
    4. When some one says go, then every one try’s to get to the other wall without getting hit by one of the balls.
    5. If you get hit by one of the balls you sit down were you got hit and when the person says go you can tag the people going bye and then there out too.
    6. And the last person standing wins.

If every one had fun and want to play again then you know you have achieved your goal.

    Wipeout Soccerbaseketball

If you follow this procedure correctly, you will either win the game or lose the game, but no matter what the result, you will know how to play!

Here is what you will need: a fair sized gym, a class with an even number (at least sixteen people), a soft volley ball, two basketball nets, a teacher, and four pylons.

    1. Divide the class into two teams
    2. Team one is the kicking/ running team and team two is the shooting team
    3. Pair a student from team one with a student from team two
    4. Keep on pairing the students until everyone in the class has a partner on the opposite team with the same number as them (i.e. 1,1,2,2,3,3)
    5. Set up the pylons in one half of the gym in a large square where the lines meet at the corners to separate the two halves
    6. Arrange team one along the wall (in ascending order) on the half of the gym with the pylon square
    7. Scatter team two on the other half of the gym
    8. Find the kicker/ runner’s partner and put him/ her on the centre dot of the gym floor
    9. The teacher must place the volley ball near the kicker/ runner and when they tell the student to go, the student will then kick the volley ball as hard as they can in any direction
    10. The partner on team two has to then run to the basketball net and wait for their teammates to retrieve the ball and hand or throw it to them
    11. The partner who has the ball, will now try to throw it at the net with hopes that they will ‘sink a basket’
    12. Meanwhile, the partner on team one will be trying to run around all of the pylons and get back to where they started
    13. If the partner on team two ‘sinks a basket’, the student on team one will not get a point
    14. If the partner on team one makes it around the pylons and back to where they started, they then score a point for their team
    15. If the runner/ kicker hits the purple board when they kick, they do NOT have to keep on running because they already scored a point
    16. If the runner/ kicker hits the backboard, they automatically score three points for their team and, in which case, may also stop running
    17. Team two also has the choice of doing a wipeout
    18. A wipeout is where the partner on team two stays in the middle and tries to get a basket from there, and if they do, team one’s whole score is ‘wiped out’
    19. When everyone on team one has kicked and run, you add all of the points that each individual scored and that is how many points team one has
    20. After that, you do a rotation and team one becomes the scoring team, while team two becomes the kicking/ running team

If your class has just played the most fun gym game EVER, then you have achieved your goal!
