Just a Dream – Justify your thinking!

Posted on

We have spent the past week working on justifying our thinking and answers when responding to text. Today, I would like you to respond to the text Just a Dream, by Chris Van Allsburg. Please make sure that you have shown how your own ideas and the evidence prove your thinking. (This shows that…… because…..)

Question:

At the beginning of Just a Dream, Walter thinks the tree Rose received as a birthday present is a dumb gift. Why does Walter feel that his tree is his best birthday present of all at the end of the book? Provide evidence from the text and your own ideas to justify your answer.

I think that Walter feels that the tree is his best birthday present of all because he wants to respect and save the environment. I know this because in the text, people were cutting down trees and Walter didn’t like what he saw. Also, he realizes that it’s important to respect the environment. Trees do a very big job in our lives; produce oxygen for us to breath. Walter planting a tree shows that Walter feels that his best birthday present is the tree because he feels he is helping the environment.

I think that Walter thinks his tree is best because he thinks he is protecting the environment. I know this because in the text, Walter has a dream of the future covered in garbage and a dream with a nice peaceful place. Him planting his gifted tree makes him think he is preventing the garbage future and getting the peaceful future. I can understand why Walter thinks he is doing a great deed with the tree because trees produce oxygen, and take in carbon dioxide which will in the end, help our world out to have the future Walter foresees. Walter planting a tree shows that Walter cares about the environment, and wants to protect it because it will help the earth.

I believe that Walter thinks his tree is the best gift, because before, he said Roses tree was stupid, because Walter didn’t respect the earth. Now, Walter respects the earth and loves trees, because of his dream of the future. I think this because in the text, Walter didn’t like Roses tree, and said it was stupid. But then Walter had a dream about the future, and saw all the litter and garbage that was covering the earth, then Walter was determined to keep that from happening. So he asked for a tree for his birthday. A tree can help the earth, and help prevent Walters future by provide us with more oxygen. And I mean clean oxygen. Walter suddenly wanting a tree for his birthday shows that Walter defiantly learned from his dream of the future. So, that’s why Walter wanted a tree! He wanted one because he cares about the earth now. ;P

Why I think Walter thinks his tree is the best is gift because he wants to help his community stop being polluted. I know this because in the text when he went into the future he saw trees getting cut down to be made into worthless tooth picks and he was sad with what he saw. I can relate to Walter because I saw a lot of trees getting cut down so I planted more trees in the forest to help out the community. Walter planting a tree shows that he saw trees were important. I know that trees help the earth and Walter learned that when he went into the future.

I think that Walter thinks his tree is the best present in the end of the book because when he dreams he realizes that if he plants a tree it will help save the planet. I know this because in the text when he dreamed that he was in a tree he saw the men cutting down the tree he was in. He also saw the company label that said toothpicks and he realizes that trees are going away to fast and we need them to survive and breathe. I also know we use too many trees every day and we need them to breathe and live. Walter wanting a tree, shows that Walter knows now that if you cut down a tree you should plant a tree in its place and this will save the planet.

I believe Walter thinks that trees are important. In the book people are chopping down trees for toothpicks. I am worried about global warming and trees stop global warming. Walter planting a tree shows that he think that trees are important, because when he went in to the future he saw trees being chopping down for useless toothpicks.

I think Walter’s tree is the best present because he does not want pollution in his world. I know this because in the text, Walter went into the future and saw garbage and pollution everywhere and he does not want pollution in the air, because his eyes and throat will burn. Also, Walter sees that all the trees will be cut down. If we don’t recycle, then garbage will be everywhere and pollution will be in the air, and garbage will be on the ground.
When he wakes up from his dream, Walter’s actions show that he learned his lesson and started to respect the Earth. Walter learned that if you do litter, then his dream world will end up like the real world

I think Walter thinks that his tree is the best gift ever because they are valuable and important to the world. I know this because in the text when he saw the tooth pick company cutting down trees he was upset because they are cutting down trees to make tiny toothpicks and wasting. If we cut down trees then there will be no habitat for animals and not enough oxygen for anyone. So I think trees are valuable just like Walter did. Walters’s actions show that he thinks trees are important and valuable so he planted a tree because he knows now that they will help the environment in the future.

I think Walter thinks the tree he got was the best present ever because he loves the environment. I know this because in the text it said he didn’t like the future because it was filled with pollution and garbage and there were no trees. Like Walter I think trees are important and beautiful and they are important to our environment. So the evidence from the text and my own ideas lead me to believe that Walter has become eco-friendly and has found a great love of trees.

I think Walter thinks that his tree is his best birthday present because he believes that trees are important. I know this because the fine toothpick corp. was cutting down all the trees in his future and he was very upset to see them do this to the trees. I know that trees give us oxygen, so like Walter, I think trees are important. Walters actions shows he thought that trees are important by planting a tree because he didn’t want all the trees cut down for useless toothpicks in the future.

The tree is Walters best present because Walter feels that there is not enough trees in the world. I know this because in the text in Walters dream, there were no trees or anything so he thought the tree was a great present. I know that trees help us breathe and they are important. Walter planting a tree shows
that he cares for the nature because it will help the environment.

I believe Walter thinks it is his best gift because he wants to save the planet by planting a tree. The text shows the tooth pick company is destroying the trees and pollutes the planet.
I like the planet and if you plant a tree we can save the planet!
Walter planting the tree shows that he is trying to save the earth. If we cut down more trees than we plant our planet will die.
