Skiing vs Snowshoeing

Posted on

Now that we have had a chance to ski and to snowshoe at Kingfisher, I want to know which activity you think is the best. You need to explain your thinking, backing up your arguments with evidence and your own ideas. Most importantly, you must justify your thinking, tying in your evidence and ideas so that there is no room for doubt!

So……., what is the best activity at Kingfisher, skiing or snowshoeing?

I think skiing is better than snowshoeing because it is more fun. When you stay on trails so you cant get lost like when you are snowshoeing off trail you do not know where you are going unless you have a compass or map/gps. Skiing is alot more fun because you can go faster and go down hills but with snowshoeing it is basically walking with oversized feet.

You’re walking in over sized feet, actully huge feet with you big ski’s on.

I think snowshoes are better because you can go throw the bushes without getting caught in the branches.

True but you can get lost easily.

But why does that make it better when you can get lost easily!

I think that skiing is better than snowshoeing because while I was snowshoeing, I fell some times and it was hard to get up since we were on deep snow. Also, when I was trying to get up while snowshoeing, my arm fell deep in the snow which made it even harder to get up. Skiing is also better because you can go down hills easier and it’s more relaxing. If you get up to a hill while skiing, yeah its hard but it pays off when you go down the hill because it’s most likely to have a hill at the bottom. Also, on snowshoes, you have to lift your foot with all that weight but on skis, you just have to glide and use your ski poles and it’s easier. Skiing is better because it’s more fun. What I mean is that in snowshoes, you are just walking on snow. What fun is that? Also, yeah you can go off trail on snowshoes, but you can get lost since you’re in the forest, but on skis, you are on a trail so you don’t get lost

I think snowshoeing is better because when you fall you can get up easily and it’s easier to walk around with snow shoes, but with ski’s you cant really do anything.

      Mr. Purdon responded:
      February 22, 2013 at 9:47 am

What do you mean by “Ski’s can’t do anything”?

    Thomas said:
    February 22, 2013 at 9:49 am

How is it easier to get up? You’re on some deep snow and when you fall, you use your arms to get up but they will fall into the deep snow, making it even HARDER to get up. On skis, you can do a lot of things.

    austin.d said:
    February 22, 2013 at 9:52 am

Kendra explain what you mean. and you can get up faster in skis.

I think skiing is better than snowshoes because when you’re trying to put them on there a lot of buckles on the snowshoes and on the skiing you only have to click it on. Snowshoes are hard to walk because there heavy.

      Thomas said:
      February 22, 2013 at 9:55 am

You need to add on. Whats the problem with a lot of buckles?

      austin.d said:
      February 22, 2013 at 9:56 am

Austin.b makes a good point. Skis are easy to put on, snowshoes are hard to put on.

    Ethan :D said:

Snowshoes are better than skis because you won’t get colder when on snowshoes, get to experience nature more, won’t fall quickly when on a down hill and you can stay balanced. When you go down hill you can. Snowshoes are easier to learn then skis. Skis are hard to use then snowshoes. Some bad things for skis are you can get hurt, hard to turn when going down a hill. This stuff proves that snowshoeing is better because skiing is impossible to control but snowshoes are easy to control because you are just walking.

      Thomas said:
      February 22, 2013 at 10:04 am

You can experience nature on skis. You dont need to go fast you can go slow. You can stay balanced on skis, with the poles. Also, how is it hard to turn? Snowshoeing is boring because you’re just walking in the forest.

    Snowshoeing vs. Skiing

I think snowshoeing is better than skiing because when you ski you can get hurt really bad. Also with snowshoes you can go anywhere you want to. When you go skiing, you can freeze because all the air will be blowing you. When you ski while it’s snowing, snow can get on your goggles, and you won’t be able to see, because you’re going fast you won’t know where to go and you can crash into a tree. You will also have to know the temperature just to go skiing, but with snowshoes, you’ll just have to dress warm.

      Kraft Dinner said:
      February 22, 2013 at 10:07 am

You cant crash into a tree because there are paths around them and googles are made specially to have the snow slide off them.

      Thomas said:
      February 22, 2013 at 10:07 am

How can you get hurt with skis? You can get hurt with snowshoes by the spikes on the bottom. Also, when you ski, you’re on a trail. You can get lost when you go snowshoeing because you’re not on a trail

I think skiing is better than snowshoeing because it is more fun going down hills. And skis are faster than snowshoeing.

but you are getting colder because your not moving as much as snowshoeing

    SNOWSHOEING V.S. SKIING

Snow shoes are better then skis because on skis you can fall and hurt yourself because you will go fast. With the skis on your feet you are going to hurt and get cold because the shoes are going to hurt because they are small and tight on the sides. With the snowshoes you don’t have to switch shoes because you can wear your boots when you putting your snowshoes on and it is much warmer.

      Austin B said:
      February 22, 2013 at 10:07 am

its more fun going down the hills, anyway you will get bored by just walking skiing is fun.

    donte said:
    February 22, 2013 at 10:02 am

Snowshoeing is better then skiing because you won’t get cold as fast as the skis because you’re moving your body more when snowshoeing then skiing. Also you don’t get hurt as much as on snowshoes then on skis because you’re not moving as fast so you can’t get hurt as much and what are the chances of you getting hit by the grips on the snowshoes. Next you make your own trail, unlike skis you have follow a trail and if you get lost you can follow your own trail back. Finally, it is easier to learn because it just like walking so you don’t fall as much if you learn fast, skiing toke the beginners a long time to get the hang of it.

    austin.d said:
    February 22, 2013 at 10:03 am

Skis can go fast so you can go to places in a shot period of time. Wih snowshoes it takes awhile to go anywhere.

      donte said:
      February 22, 2013 at 10:07 am

But you’re moving more so you stay warmer and you get to experience nature more.
