Often the best writing comes from a question. Today, we have an exposition question and topic that has a great deal of student interest. In our in class survey, close to 90% of you are on Facebook! According to the the letter of the law, kids under 13 are not allowed to have a Facebook account. We read and discussed the various arguments for and against its use for children under the age of 13. Now it is time to state your position in the form of an exposition.

So…,

Should kids under 13 be allowed on Facebook?

Comments
  1. Cody says:

Many people believe that Facebook should be allowed for kids under 13, but on the other hand many others believe that Facebook should be banned from kids under 13. The majority of evidence suggests that kids should be banned from Facebook if there under 13.

One of the reasons why we should ban kids from Facebook if there under 13 is cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is when bullies online make threats, pictures, and even videos to bully kids online. This can cause stress, and negative thinking, I have also seen many videos/movies on cyber bullying which have to do with Facebook, Twitter, and MSN.

Another reason why kids under 13 should not be allowed on Facebook is because of predators. Predators are people who are out looking for personal information like addresses, cities, names etc. This can put your kids in danger or someone else’s.

Also some kids today who are on Facebook when they have a chance are usually playing the games, but what the kids don’t know is half way through the game they try and make you pay real money for fake credits which can put a dent in there vacation fund and other entertainment.

Lastly some kids today on Facebook that are under 13 don’t even have there parents monitoring there messages. For all they know there kid could be talking to killers or predators! This could put them in serious danger.

From the above arguments it’s quite obvious why kids under 13 should be banned from Facebook.

  2. Mr. Purdon says:

Great arguments Cody. Be careful with your there’s!! They are is they’re, not there! There is in like “Look over there.” That was their pumpkin.

  3. Thomas says:

Today kids under the age 13 are on Facebook illegally. There are kids under the age approval that sign up for the social networking site Facebook. This exposition is going to show you why you should not go on Facebook under the age approval.

A child should not go on Facebook for a couple of reasons. One of them is cyber bulling. A group of people in New Jersey made a saying stating “Dave is ugly”. If the group made a page Dave is ugly page, how would Dave feel?

Also, when you sign up for Facebook, under the age approval, that means you’re giving false information. Five million users under the age of 10 and under are signing up for Facebook. Five million kids have Facebook because they didn’t ask their parents, or their parents said he or she could have an account. When your parents say that you could go on Facebook, that means their telling you that lying is acceptable.

When people sign up for Facebook, they do nothing but Facebook. A couple on a honeymoon was on Facebook the entire time they were on their honeymoon. They posted pictures of they did, they also chatted with friends on their honeymoon. They didn’t drink, or eat at all. That is just a waste of a honeymoon.

As you can see from the above arguments, going on Facebook under the age approval is a bad idea. The social networking sites like Facebooks ruins the brains of a young user

  4. Nadia says:

Many groups of people including parents believe that children should be able to have a face book account.Facebook is a social networking site where people from all over the world can contact each other. Children under the age of thirteen should not be able to have a face book account. Here are some reasons why.

First, when parents allow their child to have a face book account they’re not only breaking the law, they are telling their child that lying is acceptable! What kind of parent would you be if you told a child lying is acceptable???? This is a proven fact because; every child who joins Facebook has to lie about their age!!

Secondly, under age children can experience bad, inappropriate language and images, chainmail and threats!! This is known as cyber bullying. Let’s not let a child go through that pain! How would you feel if you were a child being bullied online??? That would hurt pretty bad right?

Third, well ok I do agree that Facebook is usefull, however, a child may not know who they are talking to!! Their so called online “friend” could be twice their age, or a hacker!!! Hackers are people who hack your online account to get your personal information!!! That causes identity theft! Don’t let that happen to a child!

As you can see from the arguments above, children under the age thirteen
    Should not have Facebook!

  5. Gemma says:

Some parents allow their children to Facebook. It is a sight where people can interact with others using virtual communication, but what happened to verbal communication? Facebook is the number one issue as to why children under 13 lack the usage of words. Kids should not be allowed to Facebook.

First of all, if you are under the age of 13, you should not have Facebook. It is illegal. If something is deemed illegal by the government, it is deemed illegal for a reason. Stealing is illegal, trespassing is illegal. By allowing your child to have Facebook, you are breaking the law.

Also, if your child is on Facebook, they are vulnerable to cyber bullying. In one school, a principal found out that his students were bullying and being bullied on Facebook, while next to no one was doing so on the playground. The sad thing is that any child with Facebook is vulnerable to being cyber bullied.

Another fact is that not all children are responsible enough to be trusted with Facebook. They may post or send something that is not okay or inappropriate. It may take hours or even days to take back what you posted. By the time the process is finished, half of the people on your friends list will have already seen it.

Lastly, most parents don’t monitor their child’s page often enough. When the cat is away, the mice will play. It is the same way when parents don’t supervise their children.

The arguments above state why children under the age of 13 should not be allowed to Facebook.

  6. Kadi-Rose says:

Should kids under the age of 13 be on Facebook?

Children under the age of 13 are illegally using Facebook. There have been many debates on whether or not this is a good idea. In the writing below, you will see some arguments that agree with the idea of children under the legal age using Facebook, and some arguments against it.

Mark Zuckerberg, founder/creator of Facebook, states that Facebook is a wonderful learning tool for kids and that it can help educationally and socially. If the founder of the websites says that his social networking creation has more potential than just social networking, it must be true, right? Right.

Okay, okay. The worrisome parents have a point. They want to limit the option of their child/children becoming ‘prey’ to any creeps out there. It makes sense. They’re protecting their child. On the plus side, do you think that letting your child go to the corner store alone is risk taking? How about letting them walk to their friend’s house without supervision? It’s the same as letting them go on Facebook if they’re under 13.

Also, not only is Facebook good to help people socially interact with family and friends; it’s also an amazing way to promote business. Many stores use Facebook to get word out about them. Most of the people who’ve done it have become very successful.

On the other hand, Facebook is also just opening another door to cyber bullying. If you don’t already know, cyber bullying is just like bullying only virtually. Who likes to get bullied? A 15 year old committed suicide after some intense bullying on Facebook. People still continued to make fun of her.

Lastly, if children under the age of 13 get Facebook, it’s like exposing them to a nightmare in a ‘box’. People on Facebook will eventually receive an email, wall post, and comment on a status, and/or a comment on a picture stating something silly like, “If you don’t send this to 5 people within the next 10 minutes I will appear in your bedroom.” It’s not always saying that but it’s usually something along those lines. It can really scare kids.

As you can see, it’s a pretty tough decision to decide whether children under the age of 13 should be allowed on Facebook.

  7. Oscar says:

Should kids under 13 be on Facebook?

First, kids shouldn’t be on Facebook because it rots your brain because you’re just looking at a screen all day. It also is bad for your vision .It also makes you less smart if that’s all you’re doing all day.

Also, kids shouldn’t be on face book is because there is a lot of bullying. For example people group up and say stuff like your stupid and stuff like that. This makes people really sad and it makes them want to do suicide. This is really important that kids don’t go on face book because some kids don’t know when they put a picture up they can’t take it back because other people can take the picture and pass it on to other friends.

Lastly, if your kids go on Facebook for to long it can make them be self centered they will only think about them self and not think about other people and not care.

In conclusion, all of the kids under the age of 13 shouldn’t be on Facebook.

  8. Katie says:

There are kids that go on to Face Book and if there are kids that are under 13 they should not be on Face Book, Because there are people that can do bad stuff to you and they can say mean things that can hurt your feel things.

One, you put a picture on Face Book you can not get the picture back to you because the people who are the Face Book they can see the picture and they can say mean stuff on the picture and it can hurt some ones feel things.

Also if you are on Face Book the people who are on it they can say rumors to you and the people who are on there they can say tricks to you. The people who are on there they can read what you write on there.

Another reason kids should not be on Face Book is because if you go on there the kids they can not get off of Face Book and they are wasting family time.

As you can see kids under 13 should not be on Face Book, Because you can never know what can happened to you.

  9. Jessy! says:

Should kids under the age 13 be allowed on Facebook

The question is, ”Should kids under the age 13 be allowed on Facebook?” Today we will examine why or why not.

First of all, the reason Facebook should be allowed to kids is, most kids mature enough and responsible to handle the net. They should know not to except people they do not know. Sure there are bad people on Facebook, but same with the world. Facebook is for keeping in touch with your friends and family.

If you put things on your wall that you do not want strangers to see, you can block them from seeing your wall and profile. Also, what’s the difference between 13 and 11? Two years. Both have same level of maturity. Hardly a difference. We should have the same rights as they do.

Kids should because then they will know more about the world/net. They will also get used to it since in the future they will most likely have a Facebook. So they would have more of a experience with it and how it works.

Should kids go on Facebook or not? Here are some reasons why not. With my first idea is about cyber bullying. Not a beautiful thing. A lot of cyber bullying comes from Facebook by commenting on pictures with mean words, mean messages, and spreading roomers about you.

There are also a bunch of creeps on Facebook that pretend to be someone that they aren’t. They could pretend that they know you or a friend of yours. Kids add people who they don’t know. A lot of friends write inappropriate comments that later get you in trouble. The comment could open you up to a bad language.

It is algal to be under 13, and parents are telling there kids that it is ok to lie about there age. These kids are breaking the law!

People make there decisions now it is time to make yours. As you can see, both sides are proving a point, many people chose one side, you pick yours.

  10. austin says:

    No Facebook

Kids under the age of thirteen are illegally Facebooking. Kids under the age of thirteen should not be on Facebook.

Many parents are letting children twelve and under Facebook. This is like telling kids it’s ok to lie well we all know that’s not true. Why would any parent tell there kid its ok to lie?

Also Parent’s are rarely watching there kids to see what’s being don, or said on their Facebook acount. You could be a cyber bully wich is a major problem on chat sites right now. They make groups that center people out.

Ok, Facebook is a little fun, but once you say something you can’t take it back. Also, it makes you lazier. Such as ooh look at me I am talking to you from my house ooh, and it cuts out of family time.

As you can see from the following arguments kids under the age of thirteen should not be on Facebook.

    By Austin

  11. Shaynah says:

NO! Kids under the age of 13 should not be able to go on face book! Many people think this because stranger’s can find out where you live. They can come and hurt you, steal from you, or
Steal YOU. Next, people also think you shouldn’t go on face book
Because on face book, it makes your mind go blank and you can’t
Think straight. Next thing you know, you can’t hear your family
Shouting at you to get off the computer. Your just ignoring them!
Then, you were on face book so long that when you have finally
Tore your eye’s away from the computer, you feel so tired that
You’re grumpy! I also seen a movie about the guy who invented
Face book, and he’s a jerk and a trickster. He even stole the idea of face book from 2 other guys! So what I was talking about was
That many people think you shouldn’t go on face book. Its not good for you. You could have been playing a sport or dolls or
Maybe you could have been taking a snooze! 

  12. Raja says:

Should kids under 13 be on Facebook ?

Kids are on Facebook illegally. This is wrong children under 13 should not be on Facebook here is why.

First, Facebook should not be for kids because the mails sometimes are bad because there can be something’s that kids can’t read. And also some of the mails bring virus. And it can be scary for the kids to read. It can teach the kids to bad things.

Also Facebook should not be for kids under 13 is because some of the games the kids play can be bad and the people can be bad too.

Next, kids should not be on Facebook is because if they put on a picture of them. Some one you don’t know or who you do know can take it and they well still have it when you delete it from you pictures.

Lastly kids should not be on Facebook under 13 is because there is lots of cyber bulling that can really hurt the kids and teach them to do bad things. For example some one can write on your pictures and say really mean things about them.

As you can see what can go on when you are on Facebook. So this is why you should be older then 13 to be on Facebook.

  13. Rose says:

Many people believe kids under 13 should go on Face Book. Others believe kids under 13 should not. This exposition is going to show you what different people believe in.

To begin with, kids under 13 should go on Face Book so they can stay in touch with far distant family that uses Face Book. This one is used for many social networking, especially Face Book. For example one of my married relatives are in Russia so I cant talk to them in person so I use Face Book so I can chat with her on Face Book.

Another, is so they can stay into date with the media so they won’t be made fun of at school. Apparently media is really important to teens and kids, teens about the age 13, 14, and 15, kids about the age 12, 11, and 10.

Lastly, (for yes) what does two years mean? NOTHING!!! Two years is nothing just because one number is 11 (which is smaller) does not mean they are different. So, what does it mean?

    Now for the Against

To begin with rumors can be spread by using Face Book and some kids think it’s the worst moment in their life and its ruined so, they kill them selves. For example , In the news there was a lot of suicide from kids most of them are cause of RUMORS!!!

Another thing is people pretending to be someone they are not. And ask complete strangers to be their friend and the person thinks that they are someone else. They ask them to come over and when they get there they kidnap them

Lastly , chain mail , chain mail is very, very weird and mean of people to do that. All they want to do is scare people and they don’t care.

As you can see there are a lot of good reasons for both of them yes and no. So, which one do you choose?

  14. Zachery says:

Should kids under 13 be on Facebook?

Many people believe that kids under 13 should be on face book and other people believe that they shouldn’t be on Facebook. It is obvious that kids should not be on Facebook.

One of the reasons kids shouldn’t be on face book is because there are cyber bullies. Cyber bullies often comment really mean stuff on kids photos. They also will tell people at your school about what kind of photos you have then everybody will be rude too. Cyber bullies can do lots of rude stuff that’s why kids shouldn’t have Facebook.

Also there are people on Facbook that can send you lots of bad stuff like gross pictures and chain mail. If your parents let you on Facebook that means that your parents don’t care if you are talking to a stranger or if you are getting bad e-mails or you can get lots of other stuff like people can find out were you live.

Another reason kids under 13 shouldn’t be on Facebook is because the kids who have it are creating bad thoughts in their mind that they can never get out. Also it creates self images that you are going to want to tell people about.

Lastly kids on Facebook are just like kids sitting in front of the television for 3 hours IT IS ROTTING THEIR BRAIN. So kids shouldn’t be on FACEBOOK. Their time should be better spent on sports, reading, music, and other stuff.

As you can see4 from the arguments above. Kids shouldn’t have Facebook intel they are at least 13.

  16. wiliam says:

Kid should be allowed on facebook

Right now there are millions of kid under 13 who are on facebook illegally kid should be allowed on facebook because this is a silly law.

Why are teenager allowed on facebook and kid are not allowed is it because age or what because it’s a law well lots of under age kid think that a bad law.

Kid under 13 already have facebook secret for they can stay in touch with friends and family if your friends and family are in Québec or New York or somewhere you cant reach them by phone.

What does two or three years make of being 13 noting its not ready being fair if you are 13 that law should be remove from facebook.

As you can see above its all the arguments so that why we should break this law.

Should kids under 13 be on face book?
Kids should not be on face book under 13

The reason is they are creepers and they are hiding there name’s
They will make up a name.5000 people are going on face book
under13 .should kids under 13 have there own account?

Next face book is for older people because kids should not go on
Face book because kids should not go on face book because there
Is bad stuff in face book. Face book should only be 13 and up.
The government should not let kids go on face book.

Lastly kids should not go on face book because there are creepers and you don’t know if it’s your friend or your family.
Someone pretending to be someone you know.

  18. maria says:

Kids under 13 should not be on face book.
Kids shouldn’t be on face book because it is legal and kids need there protection. Why? Kids always need there protection and safety.

Kids on face book use there real name and that person may change there name on face book because that person wants to now where the child stay’s and lives. these are one of the reasons why your child shouldn’t have face book make sure they have some thing safer then face book.

Kids should not have face book because hacker and creeper can write some thing inappropriate words and pictures. why? Creeper and hackers can get personal information on face book.

Some people now parents and adults. Adults may pretend that there the child’s parents and family member. This can hurt a child feelings. 

These are on of the reasons why that kids shouldn’t have face book they can get bullied online and feel hurt because words can hurt a child’ feeling’s. why? Children can get cyber bullied and get very sad.

Chain mail is very scary it’s a message that scares people its about things that you have to do and nothing will happen because it is just a computer. Why? Kids shouldn’t have face book because this can scare children and this can get a child to do what the message says.

Face book is a bad thing for children under 13
Face book could be dangerous enough for kids.

  19. Damien says:

Should kids under the age of 13 go on facebook????

There are some illegal facebookers out there and that should be stopped ASAP. They are kids under the age of 13.

First, kids should not be able to go on a social network like twitter, msn messenger, facebook etc. facebook .They seem to be contagious just like the flu because, one gets it another has it .This is all Zuckerbergs fault for letting them in. Plus who would want to lie? And why do parents say it is okay? that is just weird.

Also, we shouldn’t be able to have Facebook because once you put something on you can not take it back .Like a photo it could take you weeks to finish deleting, photo’s from facebook why don’t you guys just get rid of your account. If you want to send something privately it could be inappropriate or rude like “Dave’s ugly page join now.

Lastly, I think that the internet is a great way to get an account, if the law is not happy with 13 under social, networking is twitter a really a bad idea. But when your kids want on facebook say no to your kids.

My conclusion, from the arguments above this show’s that kids under the age of 13

  20. shamael says:

Should kids under the age 13 have a Facebook?

Most of the people think that kids under the age 13 should not have a Facebook. But some think it is important, kids can learn some thing, they can learn what is happening around them. The adult’s point of view is that kids should not have a Facebook because they think the Facebook is going to waste their time and make them getting bad marks on their school work.

Some kids put their own pictures on the Facebook maybe your fiends mite copy it and send it to every body and maybe they are going to laugh at you or make fun of your pictures. Well too bad they already copied it you can not do any thing about it.

Kids under the age 13 should have a Facebook so they can keep in touch with their friends and family. If my friends have a Facebook why can’t I have on too so I can chat with them.

If once you were playing an appropriate game and your friends where putting inappropriate pictures they are going to turn the game to in appropriate game. Are you going to play that game again?

Children under the age 13 should have the same rights as children 14 years old. For example, if my sister is 15 years old and I am 12, why can’t I have Facebook? Why can’t I have one like her? We should all have the same rights. What is the difference between 2 years?

If you where putting your personal information and you add people you do not know they mite know your name, your address, you pictures .the mite do some thing bad if they know your address.\

Most of the kids under the age 13 are responsible engh to have a Face book. They do not add people they do not know.

Finally kids under the age 13 should have a Facebook . “As I said they mite learn some thing, they mite learn what is happening around them”.however, my point of view is that kids can have a Facebook.

Why kids under 13 should have facebook!

Kids all over Canada are Facebooking and most of them are under 13 years old. Some people think that it is wrong for kids under 13 to Facebook and others think that kids under 13 should Facebook. But kids under the age of 13 should be able to Facebook.
A reason why kids under age of thirteen should be able to Facebook is because kids can connect with their family. What if your family lived far away? Kids can just talk to them with a Facebook account. So that is one reason why Facebook is good for kids.
Another reason why Facebook is good for kids is because kids can learn from using the internet. So it can teach kids to type faster and other stuff. That’s another reason why Facebook is good for kids.

A third reason why kids under the age of thirteen should be using Facebook is because it’s not fair that that people over the age of thirteen are allowed on Facebook. So it’s not fair for kids under the age of thirteen. That’s another reason why kids under the age of thirteen should be allowed on Facebook.

Lastly, kids under the age of thirteen should be able to use Facebook is because what if a kids friend had Facebook and the kid wasn’t allowed so it wouldn’t be fair for the kid. That the last reason why kids under the age of thirteen should be allowed to use Facebook.

That is why kids under the age of thirteen should be able to go on Facebook.

  22. taylor says:

Should kids have facebook at the age aof 13?

Kids under 13 are not suppose to be on facebook it is illegal they are beaking the law.

There is a major problem there is cyber bulling. For example, most kids would write Austen Is a jerk. That is not nice. Cyber bulling can send viruses to your computer and it will be
Slow. And if you don’t have Facebook you won’t get it.

Also on Facebook it there that people out there’re is some creepy people and they can get all your suff.as well as your friend

Another reason is some people can hack you and say to all your I know but they don’t. They can tack your picture away and post it on facebook. And can’t tack it back. That is not nice.

So as you can see you should not have Facebook at the age of 13 it is bad for your brain according to them.

Kids under 13 in Canada and the united states are illegally using facebook under the age of 13, here are some arguments for, and against.

Here are some reasons why should have face book under age. Kids should have facebook under age because what if a child has friends, or family living out of town, or don’t live in the same area. With facebook you can talk to those people out of town, or out of your area and you can also video chat people on facebook.

Kids under 13 are going on facebook because there are fan pages and you can talk to any kind of people like singers, writers, artists, and many more. What is the differents of 11yr olds to 13yr olds to go on facebook? Also, kids are going on facebook because there parents think that there child is responsible not to add strangers on there face book.

Also, here are some reasons why kids shouldn’t be on facebook. Hackers could find out personal information and they will be able to know were you live and they would stock you and they will know were you live. On facebook you can write things that you cant take back and even when you delete it it will be all over facebook and also if you post a picture people can make negative comments on them and you cant do nothing about it. Some kids are not mature and want to have so many friend on facebook so, they add a bunch of people they don’t even know and they are not even there friends.

As you can see, some chose to go on facebook illegally and some people wait till thery get older or over the age of 13 to go on facebook. What is the answer should kids go on facebook under the age 13 or wait in till your older than 13 yr old?

  24. dandre says:

    SHOULD FACEBOOK BE BANNED
FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 13

Children under the age of 13 should not be on face book because they might cyber bully other children on face book or they might start pages like this person is UGLY JOIN NOW.

Or children might use dirty language on face book and they will not get stopped unless someone reports there profile. Or there parents make it for them but do not monitor there writing.

And kids should not be on face book because there might be a creep or a stalker online and they might look you up and look at your information on face book and follow you around.

Also children might get emotionally scared because someone sent them a threatening message and they could be scared and not even go out side and play the stalker might say I know were you live or maybe im going to get you.

  25. Bryson says:

Why kids under 13 should not be allowed on facebook

Most people believe that kids under the age of 13 should not be on facebook. There are many reasons why kids under 13 should not be on facebook for example kids already are playing to much video games.

One reason is hackers, because they can find out were you live, crash your computer, and steal your identity. So now, would you want this happing to your children, because it can happen?

Another reason is, kids can be victims of cyber bullying. This can lead to low self of steam, depression, and worst of all suicide. No responsible parent would want that happing to their children. Also no responsible parent would let their children on facebook. Are you a responsible parent?

Also, research shows that on facebook, 7.5 million kids under the age of 13 were using facebook illegally. Out of that 7.5 million, 5 million kids under the age of ten. So, would still let your children on facebook?

My last reason is lack of monitoring because kids can say what ever they want, in which kids can get there feelings hurt. Also other talking sights have monitoring for example poker stars net has monitoring.

As you can see the above arguments and evidence it is a great idea for kids under 13 should not be able to be on facebook. So now you decide, is facebook really safe for children?

  26. Edward Chen says:

Hey Mr. Purdon! I haven’t been on this blog for a while! It’s still as good as ever.

Yes, I think kids under 13 should be allowed on Facebook, because:

    1. It can actually be educational in ways. For example, right now, I go to Waterloo Area Enrichment Class 1 time a week, and I miss lots of things on that day at my home school. When I get home, I get on Facebook, and I ask my classmates what happened during the classes that day. In that way, I am able to learn what happened, know what I need for the next day, etc.

    2. It’s our right, our freedom. We have a right to have Facebook, this is a democratic country, there is freedom. Nothing can really stop kids/teenagers from registering for Facebook. I was in China this summer, which by the way bans Facebook, Twitter, and just about every single Western social networking site, but my aunt found a way for me to use Facebook (by installing a software called fan chian, which means ” over the wall “). How cool is that? Boy, was I happy.

    3. Facebook is a way for us to chat with our peers. At the same time, we are enhancing our reading skills, writing skills, etc.

Yes, Kids should be alloud on facebook. I think that, mostly becuase im a facebook user myself and its just so much easier to do then tocall your friends. Plus its free.

Kids under the age of 13 should be alowed on facebook because of two reasons, one you could socailize with your freinds and family without anyone stalking your conversation. And two because you could play games like farmville, mafia wars, bejewled blitz etc. Finnaly if you dont want any stalkers you dont add people you dont know like my brother Leo which he does add people he doesnt know.

I wrote this off hand and it may not be as long as anyone elses but its about a level -3 to me.

    Bye Bye :0 🙂 😮 :s

    Hello Mr. Purdon,

I also run a literary blog online. I’d like to steal this question for my blog post next week. Do you mind? Just click on my name in the comment if you want to check out my blog.

In my opinion, it’s good to keep younger kids off Facebook. In addition to being a seventh grade English and reading teacher, I also have an eleven-year-old daughter of my own. We wanted to create a G-Mail account for her last summer but discovered that she was too young (according to their policy). We decided to follow the policy and wait until she turns twelve before allowing her e-mail access.

Why do I agree with this policy (and the FB age limit)? Because there are creepy bad people who also surf the Internet. Did you know people in prison have access to the Internet? Yes, they do! Scary, right? All those bad guys you see on the news… People who sell drugs and steal cars… they can be on Facebook. They can e-mail you from jail!

This is also why I require my students to use a pseudonym when they blog with me. It’s for their own safety, not because I want to be a mean, grumpy, rule-lady. I just want my students to be safe.

I also monitor and “approve” (or not) the comments posted on my educational blog. I hope you do the same!

    Mrs. Sparhawk
