The debate has raged on for a few days about the character, Michael Fish, in Roald Dahl’s short story The Hitch-hiker. One side has presented their arguments for Michael Fish being a good person and others that he is a bad person. Now is the time to deliver your closing statement.

Is Michael Fish, the fingersmith, a good person or bad person?

I think that Michael fish was not a good person. I have proven beyond doubt that Michael fish was a bad person. What makes up a good person? Do you think that a good person would cheat, steal and lie in the text it says that he stole from the cop. Isn’t stealing from the cope illegal? Yes. Also, he lied about his job and he is proud of his cheating ways. This is shown when he brags about being a finger smith. As you can see this evidence shows that Michael fish was a horrible person in many different ways. Also don’t good people not lie and tell the truth? Michael fish did illegal things and he was proud of it. Michael fish is not a good person for these reasons.

I believe that Michael fish is a good person. Michael fish the finger smith/hitchhiker is a good person. He is a good person because he helps people and his friends so they don’t get into trouble. Michael fish helps the poor by stealing from the rich or people who can afford it. He also helps friends by giving advice. Just like when he gave advice to the driver so he wouldn’t get into any more trouble. He also helped the driver by taking the two books so they wouldn’t have to go to court.
As you can see. The evidence clearly shows that Michael fish is a good person even thought he stole because he was trying to help a friend in need. He helps his friend (which means he’s a very good person) by using his magical fingers to take the two books. Lastly, he can take anything to exchange for clothes and money, but he wears old raggedy clothes so that proves that he doesn’t use the stuff for him self and this also proves Michael is a good person. Michael fish is a good person.

I believe that Michael fish is a bad person. Michael fish is a bad person because he is a thief. Michael fish stole two books from a cop, would a good person ever take something from a cop. Michael is a bad person because he made the driver go over the speed limit. And Michael fish lied about his job he said that he was a hod carrier. Michael fish admitted that he was a finger smith and he breaks the Law. He goes around taking stuff from other people. He is proud of what he does. I don’t think that a good person would ever take something from a cop, or make a driver go over the speed limit. And I would never do any stuff like that, other wise I would be a bad person. As you can see the evidence shows that Michael fish is a bad person, and anyone good would not like to do all that bad stuff.
I believe that Michael Fish is a bad person. I will prove without a doubt he is an extremely terrible person in fact. Would a good person trick someone to get into trouble for speeding? Lie about his job? Or steal from a cop? Last time I checked good people don’t do anything that Michael Fish does. But Michael Fish did all of these things and the evidence shows that he stole two books from the cop. Sure it was to get them out of trouble but stealing is still stealing. Also he got the man into trouble and it was only to impress him and tell him what his job was. Couldn’t he just tell him with words? He is also proud of what he does he said it in the text. The fact of matter is he is a pick pocket or finger smith. I am going to ask this question again, does a good person do anything that Michael Fish does? As you can see from the above the evidence shows that he is a bad person.
I believe Michael Fish is a good person. He is a good person because he can be helpful. Michael Fish was helpful when he took the two books from the police officer so they both don’t have to go to the jail, or, court. Michael Fish will steal from the rich and give to the poor. Also if Michael was a bad person he will steal from everyone, even the poor and the driver who gave him a lift. A good person does not steal from poor, a good person helps people when they are in trouble, and a good is not selfish. Michael had all of these characteristics. Michael is a good person.

Here is some evidence to show that Michael Fish is a bad person. A good person would not steal from people, a good person would not tell a lie to a cop. A good person would not tell a driver to go really fast. Does a good person lie to cops or steal from cops? As you can see the evidence clearly shows that Michael Fish is a bad person, because he stole from people and stole from a cop.

I believe that Michael Fish is a good person, and I will prove that he is. A bad person would steal from poor, rich, old, young, anybody. But Michael Fish only steals from people who can afford to be stolen from. Michael Fish saved himself and his friend from going to jail. A bad person would only save themselves. If stealing makes Michael Fish so bad, why does he still wear rags? Michael Fish is a finger smith, and he’s capable of stealing better clothes, a car, and money. But Michael Fish doesn’t have a car, he barely has any money, and he wears rags. This must mean that he steals from wealthy people to give to the poor, because he clearly doesn’t steal for himself.
As you can see, the arguments above show that Michael Fish is not only a good person, but a great one. I hope you think that he is too, because he’s not selfish, this makes him a good person, and he also saved his friend from jail, which makes him an even greater person.

I believe Michael Fish is a bad person and I have proven beyond doubt that he is an all around horrible person. Micheal Fish is in an illegal trade called pickpocketing, he might call it FingerSmithing but its still stealing and anyone who steals no matter who from is not a good person. Micheal Fish also lies all the time and told the police officer he was a Hod Carrier. Also he stole the cops ticket book and burned it thus illegally getting the driver out of court ILLEGALY. Does a good person steal? Does a good person break the law? NO a good person does none of those.
As you can see Micheal Fish is bad person because he steals, he lies, and he cheats the law. He may have stolen to help his friend but stealing is stealing and stealing is bad thus proving Micheal Fish is an evil, deceiving, and all around horrible person.

Is Michael Fish a Good Person?
I believe Michael Fish is a good person. I have proven beyond doubt that Michael Fish did things like help people because Michael Fish is good. Michael Fish was a good person because he helped the driver so he didn’t have to pay a big fine. Also, maybe he helped because he felt sorry about getting the driver pulled over, only a good person would do such a thing. Also Michael Fish didn’t steal from the rich guy giving him a ride, he doesn’t even steal from the poor nor’ people who are blind. Another reason proving that he is good that he steals from the rich, but why does he still wear rags? I’m just saying, maybe he doesn’t keep the money to himself. Another good trait about Michael is he doesn’t respect thieves, he doesn’t gamble and he only steals from the rich or the lucky ones who win. The question was is Michael Fish a good person? Would a bad person steal from the poor or people with disabilities? Would a bad person care or help his friend? Michael Fish did none of these things. As you can see the evidence clearly shows that Michael Fish deserves to be called GOOD.

There are many examples of Michael fish repeatedly breaking the law. Like he steals and he’s a liar. He steals from the cop, he steals from the driver and he steals from the people at the track.

I believe that Michael Fish is a bad person. I have proven beyond doubt that Michael Fish has done some things that would get him thrown in jail. Michael Fish is without a doubt a bad person. Michael Fish is a thief. He stole a cop’s ticket book and his black notebook, and he admitted that he steals, and he’s proud of it. Also, he’s a liar. He lies about what his job, and he says he was a hod carrier, but, he’s really a finger smith. He makes the writer get a speeding ticket. I ask again what makes up a good person? Would a good person be proud of being a thief? Does a good person lie? Does a good person make someone break the law? Michael Fish does everything I listed above. Michael Fish is a bad person.

Michael fish is a kind, nice, and thoughtful person because he helped his friend the driver, by stealing the both books containing the drivers’ information and Michaels’ information. I believe Michael fish is a good person. Michael is not a bad person even though he steals. He stole the police officers note books so the driver and Michael don’t have to go to court. Michael helped the driver of the BMW talk to the police officer so the driver wouldn’t get in more trouble with the cop and he helps people by getting them out of trouble. These are my reasons why I think Michael is a really good person.

I believe Michael fish is a good person. He grabbed the notebooks to save both of them so he is
not selfish. Michael Fish felt bad that he made the driver sped so he grabbed the notebooks from the to save both of them plus he steal from people that has more then he deserves and he give to the pour people because he is dress in rags and you have don’t have to be dress in rags to hitchhike. As you can see the evidence above shows that Michael fish is a good person.

Mr. Purdon, I am currently sick if you didn’t know already. I might not come to school for the week because I have had a up and down fever, coughing and a running nose. It really sucks that I can’t go to school.
I believe that Michael Fish is a bad person. I have proven beyond doubt that Micheal Fish is a horrible person. Michael Fish is in an illegal trade called pickpocketing, he calls it “fingersmith” but it is stealing. It doesn’t matter whether it is stealing from an old, poor, young or rich person, its still considered as stealing witch a GOOD person wouldn’t do. Michael Fish is also a bad person because he is a thief. He stole from the cop, he stole the books that held the information of the two “victims” and got the man out of court illegally. Also, he is a liar; he told the cop that he was a Hod Carrier but actually a fingersmith. Would a good person steal? Lie? Or break the law? NO a good person would not do those things
As you can see from the above arguments, Michael Fish is a horrible person. He stole, lied and broke the law. Yeah he got the man out of court but he is still considered a bad person since he got him out illegally.
